FABRICS

There are no hard and fast rules when it comes to choosing the right fabric for your blinds, but there are some basic guidelines that can help you to make your decision. Listed below are some considerations that can help you make the right decision.

SHEER FABRICS

Sheer fabrics have the finest weave and allow sunlight to stream through during the day while maintaining daytime privacy. Depending on the tightness of the weave, outside views can still be preserved while the blind is down.

Sheer fabrics provide good UV and heat protection. If heat protection is a top priority for you, choose a fabric in a lighter shade to ensure maximum heat reflection.

TRANSLUCENT FABRICS

Translucent fabrics are perfect for living areas. While still providing complete privacy and UV protection, light is gently filtered into the room. We have an expansive range of plain and textured fabrics in neutral and contrasting colour tones.

BLOCKOUT FABRICS

As the name suggests, blockout fabrics ‘block' sunlight from entering a room. Light penetration is minimized which means blockout fabrics are the perfect solution for bedrooms. Blockout fabrics offer the maximum protection possible from heat, glare and UV.

JVI Window Furnishings offer an extensive range of sheer, translucent and blockout  fabrics to suit both domestic and commercial applications.

HEAT AND UV PROTECTION

Here at JVI Window Furnishings, we are often asked questions about heat and UV protection. The sun's rays can be damaging and can contribute to the fading of furniture, carpets, rugs and even timber floors. All fabrics will provide some level of protection, compared to no window covering at all.

PRIVACY AND LIGHT CONTROL

As a basic rule, the more sheer the fabric, the less privacy you will have. If privacy is important to you, it is best to choose a translucent or blockout fabric. Translucent fabrics diffuse natural light while maintaining privacy. Blockout fabrics are opaque and blockout 100% of light while also providing complete privacy.

You may also want to consider a dual roller blind system. A dual system allows two blinds (with two different fabrics!) to operate independently on the one roller system. This is perfect for controlling privacy and providing optimum light control.

INSULATION AND ENERGY SAVINGS

Energy savings are a big consideration for many consumers these days. Blinds help to prevent heat loss during winter and reduce the heat that comes in during summer. Installing a quality blind conserves energy which reduces your energy bills and helps to minimize impact on the environment.

Pelmets also help to conserve energy by stopping the warm air that rises to the top of the window and pushing it back into the room. By reducing the convection process, a pelmet can prevent 25% of heat loss from a room.
